Web Application Engineer

Empire Group is a full service Interactive Agency looking for an enthusiastic web application developer to join our team. Our creative headquarters is located in the heart of downtown Portland, OR and provides a great cube free atmosphere that you’ll sure to enjoy. We recognize that the best products are built by people who love their jobs and have fun doing them.

We use an agile software development process to prioritize usability in our interface, while practicing such techniques as collective code ownership, continuous integration, and test-driven development. Some of the technologies we use include ColdFusion (primarily), PHP, MSSQL, JavaScript, CSS, AJAX. We develop all of our applications following the MVC design pattern so experience developing MVC based applications is a plus.

As web developer your functions will be:
• Create, setup and manage client and internal Web sites, Web applications and database servers
• Maintain and develop Empire Group proprietary Web-based applications
• Work closely with Project Managers, Creative Directors and other Empire Group team members on client and internal interactive projects
• Create and maintain documentation for web site development, content, and project management processes.
• Provide time and resource estimates for client projects

• Ability to handle multiple concurrent activities and have a flexible, positive attitude
• Team-oriented, with an interest and willingness to help develop and mentor along with your engineering team as it grows
• Excellent analytical skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Technical Skills:
• Web site production, programming and development experience
• Knowledge of OOP principles and practices
• Advanced-level proficiency in either of ColdFusion or PHP
• If you are from a PHP background, experience with either CakePHP, CodeIgniter or Symfony is a plus
• If you are from a CF background, experience with an MVC framework is a plus
• Intermediate-level proficiency in HTML, XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL, working with relational databases
• Experience working with Content Management Systems (CMS) and e-commerce systems
